Job Summary

We are seeking a Supervisor of Sponsor Donor Support for our office in Nairobi, Kenya. This full-time role involves providing tactical supervision to our sponsor-donor support team, ensuring the seamless administration of processes and activities that connect sponsors and donors to their beneficiaries. This includes handling child sponsorship, child survival, leadership development, and other significant field program communication resources. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the daily management of support and paraprofessional staff, including hiring, discipline, and termination, as well as coaching and performance management. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that the department’s responsibilities align with our organization’s strategy, guidelines, and budget.


Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership and Supervision

  • Provide Daily Supervision: Oversee the sponsor-donor support team’s daily operations, ensuring that all processes related to child sponsorship, survival, and development are efficiently managed.
  • Performance Management: Lead, coach, and manage the performance of assigned staff. This includes setting objectives, conducting annual reviews, and ensuring continuous professional development.
  • Staff Development: Foster an environment of growth and learning, aligned with Compassion’s strategic goals, by selecting, managing, and developing staff.

2. Child Protection and Advocacy

  • Advocate for Child Protection: Serve as an advocate for children, prioritizing child protection in all decision-making and activities. Abide by Compassion’s Code of Conduct and report any concerns regarding child abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

3. Budget Management

  • Budget Oversight: Contribute to the preparation and administration of the department’s annual budget, ensuring that all financial responsibilities are met on time and within organizational guidelines.

4. Quality Assurance

  • Document Management: Monitor the quality of documents related to sponsor-donor communication, ensuring accurate data entry and timely corrections.
  • Database Management: Oversee the production and entry of electronic child information into the sponsorship database, ensuring accuracy and compliance with organizational standards.

5. Communication and Collaboration

  • Collaborative Leadership: Work in conjunction with other management and senior leaders to align departmental resources and priorities with Compassion’s overall strategy.
  • Communication Resource Management: Lead the gathering and organization of communication resources to support major issues and projects, ensuring effective collaboration with church partners.

Qualifications and Skills

1. Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s Degree: A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a related field.

2. Professional Experience

  • NGO/ Humanitarian Experience: Previous experience working with NGOs or humanitarian projects is essential.
  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team, with a focus on servant leadership and coaching.

3. Core Competencies

  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

1. Office Environment

  • Standard Office Environment: This role is primarily office-based, requiring sitting, standing, and/or walking for up to 8 hours per day.

2. Travel Requirements

  • Minimal Travel: The role may require up to 10% travel to support various organizational initiatives.
