Job Summary

As the Regional Project Coordinator – AYUTE, you will spearhead Heifer International’s Agriculture, Youth, and Technology (AYUTE) Africa Challenge. This program is designed to identify and nurture young entrepreneurs using technology to transform agriculture across Africa. You will manage this program at a regional level, ensuring the effective execution of country-specific competitions and overseeing all youth and innovation projects under Heifer International. You will work closely with teams across Nigeria, Senegal, Malawi, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Tanzania to ensure the successful delivery of program goals.

As part of your role, you will be responsible for identifying new technologies to enhance smallholder farmer productivity, fostering youth interest in agriculture, and leveraging the AYUTE platform to create tech-based jobs for unemployed youth in the agricultural sector. Key Responsibilities

A. Leveraging Technology (10%)

  • Support Heifer International in identifying and implementing new technology solutions to enhance smallholder farmer productivity across the region.
  • Leverage the AYUTE Africa Challenge to stimulate youth interest in agriculture, using technology-driven solutions.
  • Ensure the integration of innovative technologies into Heifer’s programs, driving large-scale improvements in agricultural productivity.
  • Collaborate with experts to create technology-based job opportunities for unemployed youth in the agricultural sector.
  • Design and deliver impactful, tech-driven programs and projects across multiple countries in Africa.
  • Stay updated on the latest innovative technology platforms and trends that can be applied to agricultural development.

B. Strategic Support (10%)

  • Collaborate with regional and country teams to develop and implement methodologies for creating tech-enabled rural jobs for youth at scale.
  • Support the development of strategies to address the challenges faced by smallholder farmers using technology and innovation.
  • Foster and manage regional partnerships that align with Heifer’s mission and objectives.
  • Engage with AYUTE innovators, winners, and consultants to facilitate the seamless execution of the challenge process.
  • Conduct monitoring visits and participate in training programs to enhance the integration of AYUTE innovations across Heifer programs.

C. Project Management & Effectiveness – Competition Planning & Execution (45%)

  • Take full ownership and accountability for the AYUTE Challenge at the regional level, ensuring timely and effective execution.
  • Implement the annual AYUTE Challenge, including managing all aspects of the competition process.
  • Design and manage the stakeholder engagement process for planning and executing the annual Heifer AYUTE Africa Challenge.
  • Procure and engage technical consultants for the challenge’s successful implementation.
  • Manage resources and execute the annual work plan, including overseeing risk management and tracking progress on project deliverables.
  • Ensure timely communication and dissemination of project information, including reports and updates to all stakeholders.
  • Lead the contracting and engagement process for challenge winners and manage Heifer’s investment post-competition.
  • Collaborate across countries to oversee local AYUTE competitions and drive regional collaboration for AYUTE innovations.

D. Quality and Risk Management (15%)

  • Ensure accountability for all post-investment processes within the AYUTE program, standardizing procedures across regions.
  • Continuously review, document, and optimize processes to facilitate seamless project execution.
  • Provide project performance insights and communicate any significant risks, challenges, or successes.
  • Track and assess project effectiveness through systematic evaluation and reporting.
  • Compile and present research findings that support project objectives and recommend any necessary improvements.

E. Country Support for AYUTE (15%)

  • Offer continuous support for country-specific AYUTE competitions and provide standardization across all processes and procedures.
  • Attend and support all country AYUTE Challenge events.
  • Work closely with country and regional teams to ensure the successful implementation and monitoring of AYUTE innovations.
  • Support the ongoing training and development of country teams and ensure the effective monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning of all AYUTE-related projects.
  • Manage end-to-end risks across the AYUTE projects within each country, ensuring alignment with Heifer’s mission and objectives.

F. Other Duties (5%)

  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by your supervisor to support the overall success of the AYUTE program and Heifer International’s mission.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, engineering, computer science, or a relevant field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in project or program management, preferably within the youth entrepreneurship or agricultural technology sectors.
  • Experience working with business startup incubation/accelerator programs or similar initiatives.
  • Proven track record in managing tech competitions and engaging with young innovators.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles and the ability to develop and execute strategic initiatives across multiple countries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing and executing strategies that inspire youth and encourage innovation in the agricultural sector.
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with diverse stakeholders across the Africa Region.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with sensitive information and maintain the confidentiality of project data and innovations.
  • Strong background in fostering youth-driven innovation, particularly in technology-based agricultural solutions.
