Public Health and Tax Project Coordinator (3 Days Per Week) – Remote Position

Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) is a global network dedicated to securing livelihoods for the working poor, especially women, in the informal economy. We strive to ensure that all workers have equal economic opportunities and rights. WIEGO drives change by building capacity among organizations of informal workers, expanding the knowledge base about the informal economy, and influencing local, national, and international policies.

Co-Impact Grant

This position involves managing the Co-Impact Grant, titled “Women Workers Organize for Healthcare and Fairer Tax Systems”. This five-year research and advocacy grant is focused on two main pillars:

  1. Occupational Health and Safety: Utilizing participatory research with women workers in informal employment to integrate their needs into public health systems in Brazil and India.
  2. Taxation: Addressing regressive tax policies in Ghana affecting women workers in informal employment, and advocating for fairer tax systems.

Expected Outcomes

  • Occupational Health and Safety:
    • Integration of OHS provisions into national health systems in Brazil and India.
    • Expansion of OHS services into primary healthcare.
    • Interest from WHO Member States in adopting similar approaches.
  • Taxation:
    • Establishment of collective negotiation platforms for informal workers regarding taxation.
    • Development of progressive tax policies by the Ghanaian National Revenue Authority.
    • Reduction in regressive taxation promoted by OECD and other multilateral institutions.

The Position

Reporting directly to the Director of Programmes, this role requires a commitment of 3 days per week. The primary responsibilities include project and grant management, including monitoring, learning, evaluation (MLE), reporting, and coordination with research leads in the Social Protection Programme (SPP) and Urban Policies Programme (UPP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Provide comprehensive support for the Co-Impact grant, including budget management, invoice approvals, and reporting.
  • Grant Administration: Administer consultancy contracts and sub-grants.
  • Research Support: Assist research leads in executing grant activities, reviewing research outputs, and developing advocacy strategies.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop and implement a MLE plan, gather and analyze outcomes, and organize learning meetings.
  • Communication: Coordinate internal and external communications regarding grant activities and outcomes.

About You

To excel in this role, you will need the following qualifications and experience:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 5 Years of experience in a non-profit, public policy organization, research, or academic environment with a focus on project management.
  • Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, with expertise in the informal economy preferred.
  • Proven experience applying intersectional and gender equality perspectives in research or advocacy projects.
  • Advocacy Experience on public health issues in the Global South.
  • Familiarity with Outcome Harvesting as an evaluation method.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong project management skills, including work plan development, resource management, and team direction.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly.
  • Capability to work virtually and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Experience in a diverse, multilingual, multicultural team.
  • Strategic thinking, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
  • Proficiency in English; working knowledge of Portuguese is an asset.

What We Offer

This position is a self-employed consultancy contract aligned with WIEGO’s two-year contracts (2023-2025). The contract will be extended until 31st March 2025 subject to performance. The Co-Impact grant will continue until 31st March 2029.

  • Compensation: Salary in US Dollars, dependent on experience, location, and role profile.
  • Remote Work: This role is home-based; you will need your own computer and strong internet connection.
