Job Summary

The Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (PSASB) is seeking a dedicated Financial Reporting Specialist to join our team in Nairobi, Kenya. As an integral part of our organization, you will contribute to enhancing transparency and effective sustainability reporting through technology and innovation. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment focused on advancing financial reporting standards and governance in the public sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and Manage Financial Reporting Standards: Implement and maintain frameworks for accounting and financial systems as mandated by the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act, 2012.
  • Monitor Compliance: Oversee adherence to the standards by all state organs and public entities, ensuring consistent application of best practices in governance, internal controls, and risk management.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory Partners: Work closely with entities such as the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), Capital Markets Authority (CMA), Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), and the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) to promote excellence in financial reporting.
  • Champion Effective Sustainability Reporting: Drive initiatives to incorporate sustainability reporting, leveraging technology and innovation to enhance transparency across the sector.
  • Prepare and Submit Reports: Ensure timely and accurate submission of annual reports and audited financial statements to relevant stakeholders, including both hard and soft copy formats.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a Related Field: A relevant undergraduate degree is essential for this role.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Equivalent Certification: Professional certification is required, with a preference for candidates registered with ICPAK.
  • Experience in Public Sector Financial Management: At least 5 years of experience in financial reporting, with a solid understanding of public sector accounting standards and regulations.
  • Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze financial data, identify issues, and propose solutions.
  • Proficiency in Financial Software and Reporting Tools: Knowledge of the latest financial software and tools to support accurate and efficient reporting.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

The Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (PSASB), established under section 194 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2012, is responsible for setting generally accepted standards for the development and management of accounting and financial systems by all state organs and public entities in Kenya. The Board promotes best practices in governance, internal controls, and risk management, and partners with various regulatory bodies to uphold excellence in financial reporting.

The PSASB, in collaboration with partners such as ICPAK, CMA, NSE, and RBA, invites all state organs and public sector entities to participate in the Financial Reporting Award (FIRE) 2024. This year’s theme, “Championing Effective Sustainability Reporting through Technology and Innovation to Enhance Transparency,” highlights our commitment to fostering transparency and innovation in public sector financial reporting.
