We are currently seeking an Assistant Management Accountant to join our finance team in Nairobi.

Job Overview

As the Assistant Management Accountant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the finance team by ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial information. Reporting directly to the Management Accountant, you will be responsible for the preparation of management accounts, financial reporting, cost control, compliance, and documentation. This role is pivotal in maintaining the financial health of the company and ensuring that our operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

1. Management Accounts Preparation

  • Assist in the preparation of management accounts, ensuring all financial data is accurately recorded and reported.
  • Collaborate with the Management Accountant to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide insights to the management team to aid in decision-making.

2. Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and present detailed financial reports that provide clear and accurate information about the company’s financial status.
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and external regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and report on the company’s financial position, including the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow statements.

3. Cost Control

  • Monitor and control costs to maximize efficiency and profitability.
  • Reconcile and verify the cost of goods sold and other expense accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Work closely with the procurement and production teams to ensure cost-effective purchasing and production processes.

4. Compliance and Documentation

  • Ensure all financial activities are conducted in compliance with company policies and procedures as well as local and international accounting standards.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring all documentation is filed and easily accessible for audits and reviews.

5. Stock Reconciliation and Monitoring

  • Reconcile the chicks transferred and sold, ensuring any discrepancies are accounted for.
  • Monitor vaccine consumption through release orders and reconcile the same with the issue vouchers.
  • Oversee the reconciliation of packaging materials consumed, ensuring that quantities match with the store issue vouchers.
  • Reconcile the hatching eggs produced at farms or procured from third parties, following up through the hatching process.

6. Inventory Management

  • Monitor the One Stop Shops stock, ensuring zero losses from expired or missing products.
  • Reconcile the Day-Old Chicks (DOC) transferred to depots with daily and weekly sales, ensuring no balances are carried forward in the system.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of closing eggs’ physical counts versus the system records, investigating any variances.

7. Production Data Management

  • Create weekly release orders for breeder farms.
  • Input production and consumption data into the Navision system, investigating any discrepancies in feed consumption per flock unit.

8. Support in Ad-Hoc Financial Projects

  • Provide support in ad-hoc financial projects and tasks as required by the Management Accountant or senior management.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of financial strategies to improve operational efficiency.

Candidate Profile

To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in accounting, excellent analytical skills, and a keen eye for detail. You should be able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and precision.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or ACCA certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ progressive experience in a similar role, ideally within the FMCG sector.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, and MS Excel.

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Problem-solving skills to address and resolve financial discrepancies.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently.
  • Good communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and present financial information to management.
