Profile Introduction

Our client, a leading multinational logistics company based in Nairobi, Kenya, is seeking to recruit a Finance Intern for a three-month engagement. This opportunity is designed for motivated and dynamic individuals who are eager to gain practical experience in the finance sector. The successful candidate will work closely with the finance team to support the finance operations of the business while ensuring compliance with company standards and procedures.

Job Summary

As a Finance Intern, you will be responsible for handling and maintaining accounts payable transactions and assisting in the administration of the company’s financial processes. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced logistics environment and develop a solid foundation in finance operations, particularly in purchase orders, invoicing, and supplier payments.


Key Responsibilities

Finance Operations

  • Capture Purchase Orders: Accurately record all purchase orders and ensure that they are properly authorized.
  • Invoice Matching and Capture: Process and match invoices with corresponding purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Payments Posting: Post payments to suppliers, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Supplier Payments and Reconciliation: Reconcile supplier statements, ensuring that all discrepancies are addressed and resolved.
  • Statutory Compliance and Returns: Ensure that the company meets all statutory financial obligations, including the preparation and submission of returns.
  • Bank Reconciliations: Conduct regular bank reconciliations to verify the accuracy of transactions recorded in the company’s accounts.
  • Client Billing and Invoicing: Prepare and issue client invoices, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.

Administrative Support

  • Consumables Management: Assist in managing office consumables, ensuring that supplies are adequately stocked and accounted for.
  • Internal and External Audits: Support the finance team in preparing for and participating in both internal and external audits.

Quality Assurance

  • Compliance with SOPs: Adhere to the company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for finance and general operations, ensuring consistency and quality in all processes.

Environmental Management

  • EMS Participation: Actively participate in the implementation of the company’s Environmental Management System (EMS) objectives, contributing to sustainability efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Administration, or Business Management.
  • Semi-Qualified Accountant: Pursuing professional qualifications such as CPAK or ACCA is preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a Freight Forwarding company is an added advantage.
  • IT Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial software.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent telephonic skills.
  • Negotiation and Administrative Skills: Ability to negotiate effectively and manage administrative tasks efficiently.
  • Organisational and Time Management: Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and monitor tasks effectively.
  • Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively with other team members to achieve common goals.

  • Quality of Work: Consistently meet the established standards for work performance, ensuring high-quality output.
