Key Responsibilities

In this role, the Ambulance Driver will:

• Drive the ambulance to respond to all types of medical emergencies, ensuring the safety of passengers and compliance with traffic regulations.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license as required by national regulations at all times.
• Respect all road users by observing strict adherence to traffic laws and road safety rules.
• Ensure that the hospital vehicle is mechanically viable and safe for use at all times.
• Perform vehicle inspections before and after shifts, reporting any maintenance issues to the Transport Supervisor promptly.
• Complete the vehicle checklist and hand it over to the relevant supervisor during shift changes.
• Ensure the cleanliness of the vehicle both inside and out.
• Log and document all trips taken, ensuring that journeys are authorized and official.
• Ensure that only authorized persons are transported in the vehicle.
• Perform maintenance checks on fuel levels, engine oil, water, tire pressure, clutch, brakes, and other key components to ensure optimal performance.
• Report any incidents or issues affecting the vehicle’s functionality immediately to the relevant authorities.
• Minimize vehicle running costs by practicing economical driving.
• Provide ambulance services that meet the required standards of Mater Misericordiae Hospital.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the hospital management from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for the role of Ambulance Driver, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Minimum KCSE qualification with a grade of D+ or higher.
• At least two years of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and ambulance driver.
• Must possess a valid BCE driver’s license.
• Certification in Emergency Vehicle Operation from a reputable institution is required.
• Certification in First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) from a recognized institution.
• Strong knowledge of traffic regulations and a proven record of safe driving.

• Strong attention to detail when performing vehicle inspections and preparing reports.
• Excellent communication skills to coordinate with emergency medical teams and hospital staff.
• Calm under pressure with the ability to handle high-stress situations with composure.
