History
- Originated from the National Bank of India (NBI) which opened a branch in Mombasa in 1896
- Merged with Grindlays Bank in 1958 to form the National and Grindlays Bank (NGB)
- Acquired by the Kenyan government in 1970 and renamed Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB)
- Acquired Savings & Loan Kenya Limited in 1972, which specialized in mortgage finance
- 20% of government shares sold through an IPO on the Nairobi Securities Exchange in 1988
- Incorporated as a non-operating holding company in 2015 to comply with Kenyan regulations
