Introduction

Survivor Alliance is dedicated to uniting and empowering survivors of slavery and human trafficking worldwide. As part of our commitment to this mission, we are seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of World Congress Event Coordinator (WCEC). This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the organization’s vision by facilitating the logistics of our upcoming World Congress, a vital gathering of survivor leaders and allies.

Job Summary

The WCEC will play a pivotal role in organizing the second Survivor Alliance World Congress scheduled for October 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya. This 25-hour per week commitment requires a candidate with exceptional event coordination skills, a deep understanding of social justice movements, and a commitment to survivor empowerment.

Key Responsibilities

I. World Congress Logistics Management a. Site and Logistics

  • Develop and implement comprehensive logistics strategies.
  • Manage budget adjustments and procurement processes.
  • Establish relationships with relevant government officials for logistical support. b. Participation, Program, and Registration
  • Support program implementation with a focus on accessibility.
  • Coordinate communication with workshop organizers.
  • Address participant inquiries and concerns. c. On-site Logistics Coordination
  • Oversee all logistical aspects during the event.
  • Ensure participant safety and accessibility. d. After Convening
  • Finalize event budget and expenses.
  • Document insights for future event planning.

II. Coordination with the Survivor Alliance team

  • Collaborate with the Movement Building team to align logistics and content plans.
  • Participate in organizational meetings to integrate the World Congress into broader initiatives.

III. Administrative and Survivor Alliance Operations

  • Manage workload, scheduling, and communication.
  • Uphold organizational values and principles in all aspects of work.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and Survivor Alliance’s core values.
  • 2+ years of event management experience for global social justice convenings.
  • Strong budget management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Proficiency in English; Swahili proficiency is desirable.
  • Experience with Asana and strategic communications is a plus.
