Introduction:

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (Lewa), located in Isiolo, Kenya, serves as a beacon for wildlife conservation. We are dedicated to preserving wildlife and its habitat, acting as both a catalyst and a model for conservation efforts. We are currently seeking a diligent, self-motivated, and trustworthy Workshop Foreman to join our Operations Department. Reporting directly to the Workshop Manager, this role plays a pivotal part in ensuring efficient transport services and the smooth operation of our workshop.

Job Summary:

As the Workshop Foreman, you will oversee the workshop’s daily operations, ensuring the efficient allocation of labor and resources to meet operational targets. You will supervise the workforce to maintain high productivity and ensure the timely completion of tasks. Additionally, you will be responsible for fulfilling transport requests from various departments and stakeholders, as well as ensuring the proper maintenance of workshop equipment and adherence to safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full Utilization of Workshop: Ensure optimal utilization of the workshop by efficiently allocating labor and resources to achieve operational targets.
  • Supervision: Supervise the workforce to ensure the production of quality work and increased productivity.
  • Job Allocation: Allocate job cards and supervise technicians to maximize output by aligning jobs with their skill sets.
  • Transport Requests: Ensure timely fulfillment of transport requests from Lewa departments and stakeholders.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the effective usage and maintenance of workshop equipment.
  • Warranty Process: Ensure compliance with warranty process conditions and proper tagging and storage of warranty parts.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of job cards and job-related information.
  • Training and Development: Identify training needs and opportunities for improving technical knowledge and job performance.
  • Vehicle Inspection: Ensure all vehicles are inspected post-service and leave the workshop in optimal condition.
  • Roads and Bridges Maintenance: Oversee the roads and bridges team, maintaining records of maintenance activities.
  • Tractor Allocation: Assist in allocating tractors for daily chores as required.
  • Technical Assistance: Provide practical assistance and technical advice to subordinates.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety regulations and workshop practices.
  • Budget Preparation: Participate in the preparation of the workshop budget.
  • Other Duties: Perform any other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications:

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • A Higher Diploma in mechanical engineering (automotive option).
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Proficient automotive mechanical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong planning and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication and verbal skills.
