Kenchic, a leading name in the poultry industry, is looking for a Water/Effluent Technician for its Thika Plant. This role is crucial in maintaining the quality and safety of our water treatment processes, ensuring that both raw and effluent water meet the highest standards. The successful candidate will play an integral part in supporting our operational excellence and environmental sustainability initiatives.

Job Summary

The Water/Effluent Technician will be responsible for overseeing the entire water treatment process, including the purification and disposal of effluent water. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with expertise in water engineering and experience in a manufacturing environment. The role demands a proactive approach to monitoring, testing, and maintaining water systems to ensure compliance with all relevant environmental and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Water Treatment: Add chemicals such as alum, soda ash, and chlorine to disinfect water and ensure it meets the required quality standards.
• Equipment Inspection: Regularly inspect and maintain water treatment equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
• Monitoring: Continuously monitor operating conditions, including meters and gauges, to ensure the smooth operation of water and effluent systems.
• Sample Testing: Collect and analyze water and effluent samples to verify their quality and safety.
• Data Recording: Accurately record meter readings, gauge readings, and operational data for reporting and analysis purposes.
• Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain equipment used for water purification and effluent processing, ensuring all machinery functions correctly.
• Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tanks, filter beds, and other work areas to prevent contamination and ensure system efficiency.
• Regulatory Compliance: Follow all Kenya National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) regulations to ensure compliance with national environmental standards.
• Safety Standards: Adhere strictly to safety guidelines to protect yourself, your colleagues, and the environment from potential hazards.

Qualifications and Skills

• Educational Background: A Diploma in Water Engineering or a related field.
• Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on water and effluent treatment.
• Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of water treatment processes, effluent treatment standards, and the ability to operate and maintain relevant equipment.
• Software Proficiency: Competency in using the Microsoft Office Suite for data recording and reporting.
