Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

As a Waiter/Waitress at Fairmont The Norfolk, you will be an ambassador for the exceptional service and cuisine that are hallmarks of our food & beverage experience. Your warm, personal attention and knowledge of our outstanding offerings will make guests feel unique and valued.

Key Duties

  • Assist Guests: Provide informative and helpful guidance regarding menu items.
  • Beverage Knowledge: Maintain full knowledge of beverage lists and promotions.
  • Menu Expertise: Be well-versed in menu items and preparation methods, speaking passionately and informatively about our offerings.
  • Safety and Sanitation: Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage.
  • Service Station Management: Set up and tear down service stations efficiently.
  • Order Taking: Take table orders for food and beverages professionally and positively.
  • Service Standards: Provide service that meets Fairmont and Hotel Standards, fostering a welcoming culture.
  • Crisp and Efficient Service: Deliver efficient food and beverage service with excellent rapport building, offering an experience, not just a meal.
  • Cash Handling: Manage cash transactions accurately.
  • Customized Service Flow: Tailor service flow to the diner’s needs.
  • Guest Interaction: Review daily reports, handle VIP and group arrivals, and follow up on action items.
  • Hotel Business Awareness: Stay aware of all hotel business and guide guests accordingly.
  • Bar Service: Occasionally work behind the bar as a bar server, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Guest Requests: Attend to all guest requests, anticipating needs constantly.
  • Table Management: Ensure the smooth running of each table and address guests’ requirements promptly.
  • Buffet Management: Monitor buffets for replenishment, cleanliness, and guest requests.

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in Food and Beverage, preferably at a luxury property.
  • POS Proficiency: Operational knowledge and proficiency in Point of Sale Systems.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Guest Service Orientation: Strong orientation towards guest service.
  • Pressure Handling: Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work cohesively and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
