Job Summary
Mpala Research Centre, located on the stunning Laikipia Plateau in Kenya, is currently looking for a skilled and professional HR Officer. Our center spans over 48,000 acres, encompassing unique habitats of savannah and dry woodland. As part of our growth, we are looking to urgently hire a Human Resources Officer to support and manage our people operations efficiently. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with diverse challenges.
The successful candidate will be tasked with managing key HR functions, including employee relations, payroll processing, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and statutory regulations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Human Resource Administration
- Maintain all employee records and ensure compliance with legal standards.
- Oversee staff recruitment by managing the hiring process from posting job descriptions to conducting interviews and making offers.
- Address employee relations concerns, including resolving disciplinary matters, to promote a harmonious work environment.
2. Payroll Processing
- Accurately process employee salaries and wages, ensuring that payroll systems run smoothly.
- Maintain and update payroll records, ensuring full compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
3. Employee Welfare
- Assist in planning and implementing welfare services such as health, well-being programs, first aid training, and fire safety protocols.
- Manage staff leave processes, including record-keeping and compliance with organizational policies.
4. Health and Safety
- Coordinate health and safety activities across the organization, including organizing quarterly meetings and following up on action points.
- Ensure all pre-employment and post-employment health tests are conducted in compliance with regulatory standards.
5. Compliance
- Support compliance with all statutory regulations, ensuring that the organization adheres to labor laws and other legal standards.
- Implement staff orientation programs, including educating employees on HR policies, company culture, and expectations.
6. General HR Reporting
- Prepare and present various HR reports as required, such as employee leave reports, performance evaluations, and compliance updates.
- Assist with other general HR tasks and projects as assigned.
Key Qualifications and Skills
Required Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Human Resource Management or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working as an HR Officer, preferably within a similar organization.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in HR functions, including payroll management, employee relations, and staff welfare.
- Strong knowledge of Employment Laws and Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) standards.
- Current membership in the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) is required.
Technical Skills:
- MS Office proficiency, especially in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Working knowledge of HR and payroll systems.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Approachable and reliable with a strong sense of ethics and teamwork.
