Key Responsibilities

As the Underwriting & Claims Officer, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Facilitate the placement of new business and ensure proper preparation of motor certificates.
  • Invite renewals one month before the renewal date and follow up with clients a week before renewal.
  • Raise debit/risk notes and dispatch them to clients and insurers.
  • Ensure that business transactions are conducted on a cash and carry basis and forward receipts for remitted premiums.
  • Document all correspondences including letters, debit notes, endorsements, and receipts.
  • Maintain proper filing of all physical and electronic client files.
  • Forward valuation reports and registers for SMEs.
  • Attend to any business inquiries from clients promptly.
  • Register claims in IBS, report to insurers, process, and ensure settlements are in line with service standards.
  • Provide excellent customer service and ensure clients are informed of new market developments affecting their portfolio.
  • Facilitate certificate of replenishment and binder declaration for clients.
  • Ensure effective negotiation of covers and placement of business with reputable underwriters.
  • Gather marketing intelligence to drive business growth and support the sales team in closing new prospects.
  • Drive new business growth and develop opportunities to expand the client base.

Qualifications and Skills

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Insurance professional qualifications such as AIIK or ACII.
  • At least 2 years of experience in underwriting and customer experience.
  • Proven ability to work with both direct and indirect markets.

Preferred:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to think strategically and innovate within a collaborative team environment.
