Overview:

Join our team at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, and become part of diplomacy in action. We are currently seeking a skilled Carpentry Maintenance Worker to join our Facility Management section. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary range of KSh1,408,734 – KSh2,337,038 per year.

Summary:

As a Carpentry Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for conducting scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance and repair work on various building assemblies, furnishings, and fixtures within mission buildings and facilities, including residential properties. Your duties will include repairing, adjusting, and installing doors, windows, hardware, wall, ceiling, and floor coverings, as well as fixed furnishings. Additionally, you will be involved in painting various surfaces, replacing glazing products, and assisting with manual tasks such as demolition work, plumbing, and general clean-up.

Qualifications and Evaluations:

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building assemblies, furnishings, and fixture operations maintenance and repair.

Job Knowledge:

  • Competence in maintenance and repair utilizing carpentry and general building construction skills.
  • Ability to operate a wide variety of woodworking and metal machines, as well as various types of power and handheld tools.
  • Proficiency in reading and working from sketches, architectural and engineering drawings, and specifications.

Education Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school is required, along with vocational training in carpentry from an accredited institute.

Language Skills:

  • English level II (Limited knowledge) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.
  • Kiswahili level III (Good working knowledge) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to identify and solve problems effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
