About the Role
At One Acre Fund, we recognize the vital role of women in agriculture. However, women in Africa face significant challenges, including limited access to resources, lower yields compared to men, and less control over household decisions and income. To address these disparities, we are seeking a passionate Gender Lead to spearhead our efforts in Kenya. In this role, you will shape our gender strategy and design customized interventions to ensure equitable access and benefits for young women participating in the Tupande program. Reporting to the Director of Product Strategy, you will play a pivotal role in transforming the lives of rural women in Kenya.
Responsibilities
1. Conduct Program Review and Gender Inclusion Assessment
- Utilize recent gender inclusion assessment findings in Kenya to evaluate the Tupande program model’s constraints on young rural women.
- Identify opportunities to enhance various components of the Tupande program to engage and advance young rural women.
2. Build Gender Vision and Strategy
- Develop a country-level gender roadmap informed by the gender inclusion assessment and program review.
- Ensure Tupande’s initiatives contribute to gender equity, equality, and women’s empowerment.
3. Design Gender Transformative Initiatives
- Use research insights to create and implement interventions tailored to the unique needs of female smallholders.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to maximize the impact of gender-transformative initiatives.
4. Support Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)
- Collaborate with the Impact and MEL teams to define gender-related outcomes and monitor program initiatives.
- Contribute to gender-disaggregated data collection and analysis.
5. Support Reporting and Budget Management
- Compile quarterly donor reports in partnership with implementation leads.
- Monitor project budget utilization and financial reporting.
6. Lead Gender Mainstreaming
- Provide guidance to organizational leadership to enhance gender capacity across the organization.
- Advocate for gender representation in decision-making processes.

Qualifications
For this role, we are looking for candidates who possess:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (Masters preferred) in public health, gender studies, social science, or related fields.
- Over 5 years of experience leading complex field programs in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on gender equality strategy and programming.
- Proficiency in project and stakeholder management, including goal-setting and providing technical guidance.
- Experience in conducting gender-sensitive research or analyzing existing data for informed decision-making.
Preferred Start Date: As soon as possible
Job Location: Nairobi, Kisumu, Kakamega, Kenya
