Job Summary
TSG Hospitality is actively seeking a Unit Accountant to join our team in Nairobi. This role is essential for providing accurate financial information to management by researching, analyzing accounting data, and preparing insightful reports to support decision-making. The successful candidate will assist in various financial operations, including payroll processing, rent collection, and statutory compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in accounting and a passion for the hospitality industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Payroll Management: Assists the Senior Accountant in preparing and disbursing salaries to staff, ensuring accurate issuance of pay slips on a monthly basis.
- Invoice Processing and Rent Collection: Issues invoices to tenants and follows up on timely rent collection.
- Petty Cash Administration: Helps administer petty cash, ensuring regular reconciliation of the petty cash account.
- Accounts Receivable and Expenditure Management: Manages accounts related to receivables and expenditure for the Gym under TSG Hospitality.
- Statutory Deductions: Assists in the timely remittance of monthly statutory deductions, including VAT, NSSF, NHIF, PAYE, and Withholding Tax.
- Statement Preparation: Prepares monthly financial statements for property owners, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
- General Ledger Reconciliation: Performs regular reconciliations of the general ledger to ensure the accounts are up-to-date and accurate.
- Supplier Payments: Verifies invoices, prepares payment vouchers, and assists in the preparation of payments for suppliers.
- Management Accounts Generation: Collaborates with the Senior Accountant to generate management accounts on a monthly basis, contributing to insightful financial reporting.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in using Accounting Software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Pastel, etc.)
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to create spreadsheets, analyze, and interpret financial data
- Highly organized with great attention to detail
- Excellent time management and ability to meet strict deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to present financial data clearly in tables, spreadsheets, and reports
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
- Professional qualification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (Level 1 or II)
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a similar accounting role, preferably in the hospitality industry

Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification (Level I or II)
- 2 years of work experience in an accounting role, preferably within the hospitality industry
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Sage Pastel, or other accounting software
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
