Role Profile

We are in search of a dynamic and commercially astute professional to join our team as a Territory Manager. In this pivotal role, you will assume end-to-end responsibility for a designated warehouse and market, treating them as a cohesive business unit. Your mandate includes executing the organization’s market strategy, overseeing the Profit and Loss (P&L), budget management, market and business performance, as well as efficient operations and effective team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Unit Performance

  • Profit Maximization: Strategically manage the P&L for the warehouse and market, focusing on maximizing profitability. Vigilantly monitor business unit performance and ensure the achievement of all key organizational KPIs. Implement corrective measures promptly to address any performance decline.

Revenue Generation

  • Collaborative Revenue Growth: Partner closely with the commercial and procurement teams to drive revenue growth within the market. Provide guidance on product pricing to enhance profit margins. Collaborate with the sales team to boost product penetration, employing effective sales and marketing strategies.

Strategy Execution

  • Effective Communication: Articulate and ensure the execution of the business strategy within the market, consistently meeting set KPIs. Foster a deep understanding and buy-in of the strategy among your team. Support the development of pricing strategies and product pricing based on market insights, competitor analysis, and customer feedback.

Operations Optimization

  • Efficiency Enhancement: Lead the coordination of business activities with the head office and work closely with Functional Managers to optimize operational efficiency. Proactively drive the development and refinement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enhance overall operational effectiveness.

Inventory Management

  • Inventory Oversight: Collaborate closely with the Warehouse Supervisor and Loss Control Supervisor to ensure meticulous inventory management, stock control, and loss prevention. Together, devise and implement measures to safeguard warehouse inventory.

Compliance

  • Rigorous Compliance: Uphold strict adherence to established SOPs for the warehouse, operations, and HR functions. Ensure comprehensive team training and understanding of these processes. Guarantee compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements, including health and safety standards. Conduct frequent operations audits to evaluate compliance levels, identify operational gaps, and address issues promptly.

Budget Management

  • Budget Stewardship: Develop and present the annual budget for your specific business unit. Monitor and manage budget utilization, ensuring control, accurate accounting, and reconciliation.

Market Intelligence & Business Advisory

  • Market Insights: Oversee regular market surveys and analyses to identify lucrative opportunities, understand competitor activities, and grasp customer dynamics. Escalate valuable customer feedback to management for necessary course corrections.

People Management

  • Talent Development: Assist in staff recruitment, training, supervision, and performance appraisals within the business unit. Collaborate closely with the HR team to execute critical HR functions, including policy implementation, performance management, disciplinary actions, evaluations, and training.

Minimum Requirements & Key Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of experience in operations management and driving business performance, preferably within the retail or FMCG sector.
  • Proficiency in P&L management.
  • Experience in establishing and expanding markets, with a proven track record of achieving numerical targets, is highly desirable.
  • Competence in end-to-end operations encompassing warehousing, logistics, sales, and business performance management.
  • Strong business acumen, an understanding of key priorities, and a sharp sense of what it takes to drive business success.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams, with indirect reporting lines, to execute business objectives and strategies effectively.
