Job Purpose

The Central Bank of Kenya is seeking a dynamic and skilled Technician, Artisan (Technician 2) to join our esteemed team. In this role, you will work under the direction and guidance of an experienced Team Leader, taking responsibility for handling repairs and maintenance services related to carpentry, joinery, and builders works within the assigned workstation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Office Floor Space Management: Responsible for carrying out works on responsive and planned maintenance tasks to the highest specifications in office floor space management.
  2. Builders Works: Execute first and second fix joinery and associated building works to specification as instructed, either individually or as part of a team.
  3. Finishes Maintenance: Conduct maintenance on various finishes, including floor, wall, ceiling, pavement, etc.
  4. Fittings and Fixtures Maintenance: Ensure the maintenance of fittings and fixtures such as doors, windows, glazing, partitions, and furniture.
  5. Documentation: Complete timesheets and other relevant documentation to the satisfaction of your line manager within expected timelines.
  6. Equipment Usage: Use authorized plant & equipment provided with due care and attention and in line with expected standards and procedures.
  7. Collaboration: Work collaboratively within the function and be available to support in any area as guided by the line manager.
  8. Material Handling: Load and unload materials and equipment as directed and in line with expected standards and procedures.
  9. Relationship Building: Build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, guests, and managers to ensure the effectiveness of the repairs and maintenance service.
  10. Safety: Be aware of risks in your area of work, work in a safe manner taking into account other people’s health and well-being.
  11. Continuous Learning: Take part in the function’s initiatives and training to continuously upskill.
  12. Health and Safety: Follow Health and Safety policy and procedures, including the wearing of personal protective equipment when necessary.
  13. Team Player: Be a responsive and active team player in line with Bank values.

Qualifications

  1. Higher National Diploma or equivalent in Architecture or building services with an emphasis on builders works, carpentry, and joinery.
  2. Artisan National Trade Test Certificate Grade III/apprentice Certificate awarded by the National Industrial Training Authority or its equivalent/higher and relevant qualification from a recognized institution.

Work Experience

  1. Five (5) years of relevant experience in a busy related field within a large institution.
  2. Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical/electronics, etc., will be an added advantage.

  1. Highly experienced and hands-on in all practical artisan and related building areas, including carpentry, concrete works, finishes, fittings, painting, ceiling, aluminum, roofing, civil works, basic electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.
  2. Knowledge of repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques.
  3. Knowledge of the Kenyan plumbing code.
  4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material by an Architect.
  5. Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculations, diagnose and resolve.
  6. Problem-solving, use hand and power tools.
  7. Ability to write technical specifications, take off quantities, prepare BQ’s, estimate costs and reports and evaluate contractor tenders.
  8. Computer skills – including the use of MS Office suite, ArchiCAD/AutoCAD.
