Job Summary:

Are you a skilled statistician seeking an impactful opportunity? Join Ciheb as a Survey Statistician for the second Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (KENPHIA II) in Kenya. Your expertise will be pivotal in collecting, reviewing, and reporting on survey data, as well as developing insightful statistical models. Collaborating with key stakeholders, you’ll contribute to Kenya’s health data landscape. This role reports to both the Data Systems and HI Advisor and the Director of KENPHIA II.

Responsibilities:

Key functions:

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with MoH, KNBS, CDC, and other stakeholders to address statistical challenges and enhance project implementation.
  • Precision Estimations: Utilize survey methodology, demography, and geostatistical modeling to produce precise national and subnational population estimates aligned with protocol objectives.
  • Sampling Expertise: Lead the design and execution of sampling and weighting strategies, incorporating geospatial and geostatistical techniques.
  • Capacity Enhancement: Identify knowledge gaps and train data management teams, imparting expertise in sampling frame construction, design, calculations, and selection.
  • Technical Support: Provide KENPHIA II with sampling procedure descriptions, statistical advice, and expertise in constructing key control data files.
  • Geographic Data Management: Collaborate with Data Systems and HI Advisor to facilitate effective geographic data handling, including mapping, listing, and control data production.
  • Insightful Communication: Synthesize findings into written documents, presentations, country reports, and peer-reviewed papers.
  • Adaptive Learning: Continuously learn and apply advanced statistical techniques, contributing to the field of international health, demography, and HIV/AIDS research.

  • Publication Proficiency: Showcase your expertise by publishing survey research that employs statistical techniques, contributing to HIV/AIDS-related studies.

Qualifications:

  • Educational: Master’s or PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, or Statistical Demography.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience in large-scale population-based surveys and data analysis using Python, R, STATA, or SPSS.
  • Expertise: 5 years of experience supporting large surveys, applying statistical techniques (central tendency, dispersion, correlation, etc.), and designing survey samples in various contexts.
  • Skills: Proficiency in designing samples, calculating weights, and assessing sampling errors for surveys.
  • Capacity Building: Experience in enhancing sampling capacity and employing advanced statistical techniques.
  • Health Focus: Background in international health, demography, statistical analysis, and HIV/AIDS studies.
  • Publication: Strong record of publishing statistical research in survey and HIV/AIDS domains.
