About VVOB Kenya

VVOB has reestablished its presence in Kenya, with a focus on strengthening primary and secondary education. Since 2022, our efforts have centered around School Leadership and Gender Transformative Education. We are currently implementing the INCREASE project, which supports the Ministry of Education (MoE) through our operational partner, the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI). Our primary goal is to enhance the instructional leadership skills of school leaders as they guide the implementation of the competency-based curriculum (CBC) in junior schools across Kenya. Additionally, VVOB has initiated a regional programme on Teacher Professional Development for Gender-Responsive Pedagogy since 2024.


Purpose of the Role

As the Strategic Education Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in advancing VVOB’s mission to provide quality education globally, ensuring no child is left behind. You will act as the primary liaison for education partnerships and policy in Kenya, offering technical and strategic advice to VVOB and its partners. You will report directly to the Country Programmes Manager and work closely with colleagues in Education and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E).


Key Responsibilities

  • Partnership Development: Establish and nurture partnerships with key stakeholders, including government institutions, NGOs, and educational organizations.
  • Policy Support: Guide the policy processes required to institutionalize and scale VVOB programmes, ensuring they are evidence-based and aligned with Kenyan educational policies.
  • Strategic Guidance: Provide long-term strategic advice on educational trends and policy developments in Kenya, aligning with the latest research in education and international development.
  • Project Design: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design scalable projects that address the specific needs of Kenya’s educational system.
  • Capacity Development: Adapt your role to the needs of the programme, offering capacity-building support at various stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Systematize and share lessons learned across VVOB’s global network to contribute to continuous learning and improvement.

Daily Activities

A typical workweek for you might include:

  • Collaborating with the M&E and Research Advisor and KEMI’s research department to discuss the results of school leader training programmes.
  • Sharing drafts of the Situational Analysis on Skilling for a Sustainable Future with the Global Strategic Education Advisor for input.
  • Presenting the impact of VVOB’s training programme to the Ministry of Education, advising on upscaling opportunities.
  • Coordinating an online meeting with colleagues from the African Center for School Leadership and partners to organize the upcoming School Leadership Taskforce Meeting.
  • Finalizing a presentation with the Country Programmes Manager for a forthcoming meeting with a potential donor.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Education, Human Sciences, or a related field.
  • In-depth understanding of the Kenyan education system with strong connections within the education sector.
  • Experience in education project management and evidence-based policy-making.
  • Proven track record in organizational capacity development and scaling educational programmes.
