SENIOR RESEARCH ANALYST – CLIMATE FINANCING at Institute of Public Finance

If so, we invite you to join the Institute of Public Finance (IPF) as a Senior Research Analyst in Climate Financing.

Job Summary: As a Senior Research Analyst, you will be an integral part of the Senior Technical Working Group, reporting directly to the Head of Research. Your role will center around conducting in-depth research, analysis, and strategic assessments related to climate finance in Kenya. Your insights will shape evidence-based policies, programs, and initiatives to promote sustainable and resilient climate finance solutions.

Responsibilities:

Research and Analysis:

  • Innovative Insights: Dive deep into climate finance trends, exploring innovative approaches to financing mitigation and adaptation, with a focus on public finance management.
  • Actionable Recommendations: Analyze complex data, synthesizing it into actionable insights and policy recommendations tailored for policymakers.
  • Assessment: Continuously monitor and evaluate climate finance programs and projects, aligning them with IPF’s core values.

Policy Development and Advocacy:

  • Policy Analysis: Analyze climate finance plans, policies, regulations, and strategies at the national and international levels.
  • Informative Reports: Support the creation of policy papers, reports, and briefings on climate finance topics, emphasizing Kenya.
  • Strategy Enhancement: Contribute to alternative climate finance policies and strategies that align public financial resources with climate goals.
  • Transparency and Governance: Provide recommendations for enhancing transparency, accountability, and governance in climate finance.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with policymakers, financial institutions, and relevant organizations to influence climate finance strategies based on IPF’s research.
  • Information Dissemination: Keep stakeholders informed about international, regional, and national climate finance policies and regulations.

Data Analysis and Modeling:

  • Comprehensive Data: Collect, analyze, and maintain a comprehensive database of financial data related to climate finance initiatives.
  • Efficiency Analysis: Assess the impact and efficiency of climate financing mechanisms, suggesting improvements where needed.
  • Equity Assessment: Develop data and methods to assess the equity impact of various climate finance choices in Kenya.

Communication, Capacity Building, and Training:

  • Effective Communication: Prepare research reports, policy briefs, and presentations to convey findings and recommendations to policymakers and the public.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, and civil society to share insights and promote best practices in climate financing.
  • Capacity Building: Provide training and capacity-building support to government officials and organizations involved in climate finance.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Facilitate knowledge exchange workshops and seminars on climate finance and public finance management.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 2-3 years of relevant work experience in climate finance research and analysis.
  • Expertise: Strong understanding of climate finance mechanisms, international climate agreements, and sustainable development goals.
  • Tools: Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, R, Python).
  • Team Player: Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
  • Organization: Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication and writing skills in English.
