Role Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Medical Services & Research, the Senior Registrar – Paediatrics will be responsible for carrying out clinical procedures and managing in-patient and out-patient pediatric cases. The successful candidates will play a pivotal role in delivering curative services in alignment with established protocols and the hospital’s patient care objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care: Conduct initial assessments, treatments, stabilizations, and referrals to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Clinical Procedures: Perform non-emergency and emergency procedures in consultation with specialists and consultants.
  • Clinical Management: Conduct outward rounds for daily clinical progress and management of patients under supervision.
  • Mentorship: Mentor medical officers to enhance knowledge and improve patient care standards.
  • Continuous Learning: Participate in ongoing medical evaluations and pursue mentorship opportunities to enhance expertise.
  • Research: Participate in research activities and contribute to protocol development in the specialty area.
  • Confidentiality and Ethics: Maintain high levels of patient confidentiality, work ethic, and adherence to applicable codes of conduct.

Requirements:

  • Education: Master of Medicine degree in Paediatrics and Child Health.
  • Certification: Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from a recognized institution. Must be registered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council and hold a valid practicing license.
  • Specialization: Specialist recognition from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council.
  • Training: Basic Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, LSO Advanced Life Support.
  • Competencies: Possess emergent lifesaving skills, effective decision-making abilities, patient care skills, and basic counseling skills.
