Duration: Permanent and Pensionable
Gross Salary: Kshs. 141,950

Role Overview: The Senior Public Education & Training Officer is a pivotal role responsible for spearheading human rights education and training initiatives. This role involves creating and implementing impactful training programs, producing training materials, and conducting public awareness campaigns to cultivate a human rights culture in Kenya among both state and non-state actors.

Operational Responsibilities:

1. Supervision and Leadership:

  • Oversee and guide the activities of public education and training officers, interns, and attaches to ensure efficient execution of the Division’s objectives.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to enhance the professional growth of public education and training officers, interns, and attaches.

2. Partnership Enhancement:

  • Foster and strengthen partnerships with key human rights stakeholders to amplify the Commission’s effectiveness.
  • Formulate innovative concepts and strategies aligned with the Commission’s strategic plan to drive successful partnership management.

3. Curriculum Design and Implementation:

  • Develop comprehensive training curricula, training manuals, and materials to facilitate impactful human rights education programs.
  • Lead the implementation of engaging public education and awareness sessions to raise consciousness about human rights.

4. Reporting and Resource Mobilization:

  • Prepare accurate and timely reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual donor reports to ensure transparency in fund utilization.
  • Craft compelling proposals to secure resources for Commission programs, managing grants and reporting as required.

5. Work Planning and Strategy:

  • Contribute to the formulation and execution of divisional work plans, aligning them with the Commission’s Strategic Plan and Directorate vision.
  • Play a key role in building and maintaining Commission partnerships that align with the Division’s mandate.

6. Project Initiatives:

  • Initiate project activity requests and oversee their implementation for optimal impact.

7. Education Materials Development:

  • Design Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials to enhance public awareness and sensitivity to human rights.

Skills, Experience and Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a comparable position within a reputable organization.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, International Relations and Diplomacy, Social Sciences, or a relevant field from a recognized university.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in human rights matters and education.
  • Proven track record in conceptualizing and leading Public Education and Training Projects.
  • Demonstrable expertise in human rights education and training.
  • Proficient facilitation skills for adult learners.
  • Proficiency in developing training materials and excellent IT skills.
  • Outstanding communication (written and oral), interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Must comply with the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
