Senior Nutrition and Food Security Associate

Organizational Setting and Work Relationships

In this position, you will support UNHCR’s efforts in ensuring that international standards are met to protect and improve the nutritional status and minimize avoidable morbidity and mortality among affected populations of concern (POC) in the country.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support Country Public Health, Nutrition, and Food Security Strategies:
    • Assist in the development of country public health, nutrition, and food security strategies based on up-to-date assessments and identification of needs, considering preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative care, as well as different approaches required for various stages of the humanitarian response.
    • Support the targeting of basic food and non-food assistance, and collaborate with governments and other actors to support national health systems.
  2. Monitoring and Analysis:
    • Participate in the planning, implementation, analysis, and review of UNHCR Standardized Expanded Nutrition Surveys and joint food security assessments with WFP and partners.
    • Assist in the implementation of Health Information Systems, SENS database, and Post Distribution Monitoring, ensuring linkages with nutrition cluster assessment tools.
  3. Technical Assistance and Capacity Strengthening:
    • Provide technical assistance on nutrition and food security to UNHCR’s staff and partners.
    • Assess the capacity of potential implementing partners and assist in providing adequate technical support and training.
  4. Advocacy and Coordination:
    • Advocate for refugees, returnees, and other POCs’ access to local public health and nutrition services and their inclusion in government policies and social protection programs.
    • Coordinate with other humanitarian actors involved in nutrition, food security, and related areas.
  5. Reporting and Communication:
    • Analyze and interpret nutrition, food security, and health data for reporting and advocacy.
    • Communicate nutrition and food security data and analysis to various audiences internally and externally.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • For GS7 level: 4 years relevant experience with High School Diploma; or 2 years relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Certificates and/or Licenses: Public Health, Nutrition, Food Security (asterisked* are essential).

Desired Candidate Profile:

  • Proven and sound experiences in Nutrition and Food security areas.
  • Proven experiences working in the field in a refugee context.
  • Sound experience in coordination and interaction with various stakeholders in the nutrition and food security area.
  • Sound experiences in monitoring and reporting.
  • Sound communication skills.

Language Requirements:

For International Professional and Field Service jobs: Knowledge of English and UN working language of the duty station if not English. For National Professional jobs: Knowledge of English and UN working language of the duty station if not English and local language. For General Service jobs: Knowledge of English and/or UN working language of the duty station if not English.
