Job Summary

As the Senior Manager – Facilities Management at Kenya Airways, you will play a pivotal role in leading and executing the Facilities Management strategy for our airline. This high-impact position requires an individual who can oversee all aspects of facility operations, maintenance, space planning, and vendor management. Your leadership will be crucial in maintaining the high standards of our facilities while ensuring operational efficiency and sustainability.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and Implement Facilities Strategies: Create comprehensive strategies aligned with Kenya Airways’ organizational objectives. Focus on both short-term needs and long-term sustainability goals.
  • Align with Organizational Goals: Ensure all facilities management initiatives support the airline’s overall mission and vision.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and Mentor: Manage a team of facilities professionals, including facility managers, maintenance staff, and administrative personnel.
  • Inspire Excellence: Foster a positive and productive work environment that encourages professional growth and high performance.

Budget Management

  • Develop and Oversee Budget: Create and manage the facilities budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness in maintenance, repairs, renovations, and energy consumption.
  • Ensure Financial Efficiency: Monitor and control expenditures to stay within budgetary constraints while achieving operational goals.

Vendor Management

  • Collaborate with Service Providers: Work with vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure high standards of workmanship and service delivery.
  • Enforce Service Agreements: Oversee compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and implement penalties for underperformance.

Compliance and Safety

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure facilities adhere to relevant regulations and safety standards.
  • Develop Safety Protocols: Implement and monitor safety protocols and emergency response plans. Ensure all utility systems are inspected and meet regulatory standards.
  • File Reports: Prepare and file necessary reports with government and regulatory authorities, including environmental permits.

Space Planning

  • Optimize Space Usage: Collaborate with various departments to plan and optimize space utilization considering current and future needs.
  • Enhance Facility Efficiency: Implement space planning solutions that improve functionality and efficiency.

Technology Integration

  • Innovative Technologies: Explore and integrate innovative technologies to enhance facility management processes, improve efficiency, and reduce environmental impact.
  • Upgrade Systems: Ensure facility management systems are up-to-date with the latest technological advancements.

Sustainability

  • Implement Sustainable Practices: Introduce energy-efficient initiatives, waste reduction programs, and environmentally friendly procurement practices.
  • Promote Green Initiatives: Advocate for sustainability within the facilities management function and beyond.

Qualifications and Skills

Educational Requirements

  • Master’s Degree: In Business Administration.
  • Bachelor’s Degree: In Civil Engineering, Construction, or Property Maintenance/Administration.

Certifications

  • Project Management Certification: Prince2 or PMP.

Experience

  • Facilities Management Experience: At least 7 years in facilities management, including project management, budget management, and repairs & maintenance in a corporate setting.
  • Contract Administration: Knowledge of contract administration, environmental and building regulatory laws.
  • Real Estate Management: Experience in real estate management is an added advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Technical Understanding: Solid knowledge of technical aspects such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical systems, etc.
  • Occupational Health and Safety: Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
