Job Summary
The Senior Child Protection Coordinator at Save the Children will focus on managing child protection projects, overseeing child protection activities, and ensuring the quality and timely execution of child protection case management. The position involves leading a team of Child Protection Officers, managing budgets, providing technical and managerial support, and collaborating with governmental agencies such as the Department of Children Services (DCS). The ideal candidate will also develop child protection policies and work closely with the Child Protection Working Group.
Key Responsibilities
Program Delivery
- Lead the Child Protection (CP) Team, ensuring effective project implementation and motivating the staff.
- Provide technical support to the team, ensuring proper induction, training, and capacity development.
- Regularly visit the field to monitor ongoing child protection projects, especially in camp settings.
- Develop strategies for the reintegration of vulnerable children, with a focus on education and livelihoods.
- Ensure the Best Interest Assessments (BIA) and Best Interest Determinations (BID) processes are conducted in line with national and international standards.
- Chair BID panels, ensuring the quality of case management processes.
- Collaborate with the project team to support the development of new child protection initiatives.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Work closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) team to track project progress and address challenges as they arise.
- Ensure accurate reporting of project milestones and success stories.
- Maintain up-to-date case management information and analyze relevant data for program improvement.
- Conduct periodic quality checks on child protection case management forms and review case assessment reports.
Partnerships and Coordination
- Coordinate closely with other agencies working in refugee camps to ensure effective outreach and synergy across programs.
- Build and sustain partnerships with governmental agencies, NGOs, and community-based organizations to promote community-driven child protection strategies.
- Represent Save the Children at interagency meetings, advocating for child protection and promoting children’s rights in legislative processes.
Budget and Financial Management
- Collaborate with the finance team to monitor project budgets and ensure financial compliance with donor requirements.
- Oversee the budget planning and ensure that projects adhere to donor obligations.
- Regularly review Budget vs. Actual expenditure sheets and collaborate with relevant departments to ensure accurate reporting.
Qualifications and Skills
- Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of six years of experience in child protection, especially within refugee settings.
- Proven leadership and management experience, preferably within emergency response or development contexts.
- Strong financial management skills, including budget planning and expenditure monitoring.
- Demonstrated ability to work with community-based child protection networks and facilitate community ownership of child protection programs.
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili is required. Working knowledge of local languages is strongly preferred.
