Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Accountant, your primary responsibilities will include:
Supplier Management
- Assess and monitor supplier performance to ensure quality and reliability.
- Process supplier invoices promptly and accurately.
- Rectify inconsistencies in supplier statements and maintain compliance with contractual obligations.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
Customer Refunds
- Manage and execute customer refunds efficiently.
- Resolve disputes related to customer refunds in a professional manner.
- Maintain detailed records of all refund transactions.
Project Expense Management
- Oversee project expenses to ensure adherence to budgetary limits.
- Prepare detailed expense reports and provide cost control recommendations.
- Collaborate with team leaders to ensure timely and accurate expense reporting.
Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger entries.
- Conduct regular bank reconciliations and prepare financial statements.
- Prepare and post journal entries as needed.
Statutory Management
- Prepare and submit statutory documents in compliance with legal requirements.
- Stay updated on changes in legislation and adjust accounting practices accordingly.
- Ensure all statutory submissions are completed before deadlines to avoid penalties.
Management Accounts
- Prepare and review management accounts by the 10th of each month.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial estimates.
- Provide actionable insights to support strategic decision-making.
People Management
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff.
- Provide training and support to ensure adherence to accurate accounting practices.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
Additional Duties
- Execute any other responsibilities assigned by senior management.
Key Accountabilities
- Business Process Implementation: Ensure seamless execution of financial processes.
- Payables Execution: Deliver timely and accurate supplier payments.
- Financial Reporting: Produce comprehensive and timely financial reports.
- Customer Satisfaction: Maintain high levels of client satisfaction through efficient financial operations.
- Operational Efficiency: Optimize financial processes to enhance efficiency.
- Cost Effectiveness: Monitor and manage costs to support financial sustainability.
Main Activities
Supplier Management
- Oversee the processing of supplier invoices.
- Adjust and reconcile supplier statements.
- Enforce compliance with company policies during supplier transactions.
Customer Refunds
- Handle customer refunds while addressing disputes effectively.
- Keep accurate records of all refund activities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies regarding refunds.
Project Expense Management
- Monitor project expenses against budgetary constraints.
- Collaborate on expense reporting with other departments.
- Provide insights to optimize project-related costs.
Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate financial records.
- Perform regular reconciliations of financial statements.
- Prepare and post necessary journal entries.
Statutory Management
- Prepare and submit statutory returns, including PAYE, NHIF, and NSSF.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and adjust practices accordingly.
- Avoid penalties through timely submissions.
Management Accounts
- Prepare detailed management accounts for the organization.
- Review and discuss accounts with management teams monthly.
- Contribute to budgeting and financial forecasting.
Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, you must meet the following requirements:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPAK) qualification.
- A Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is an added advantage.
Professional Membership
- Membership in a recognized professional body is mandatory.
Experience
- At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a minimum of 2 years at a supervisory level.
- Proficiency with financial management software such as ERP systems, QuickBooks, and advanced Excel.
Skills
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with various departments and senior management.
