Position Details

Job Title: Roving Finance Controller

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Temporarily assume the role of Deputy Director Finance in various offices, ensuring financial performance and internal control compliance.
  • Monitor financial activities and advise the Country Director on financial matters.
  • Manage finance department activities and schedules to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Facilitate audits and maintain compliance with local government financial regulations.

2. International Deployment

  • Travel to diverse IRC field offices, providing technical support and leadership on financial processes.
  • Lead budget development and financial activities as needed.
  • Ensure grant proposal budgets are accurately prepared and revised.

3. Training and Support

  • Provide financial and procedural training to staff, promoting adherence to IRC financial guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Regional Finance Directors to develop accurate job descriptions for finance roles.

4. Continuous Improvement

  • Meet with Country Directors and Deputy Directors to discuss assignments and outcomes.
  • Contribute to the rollout of IRC’s new ERP system.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in IRC financial policies and systems.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive NGO accounting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required, French proficiency a plus.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to different Country Programs.
  • Proficient knowledge of fund accounting, procurement, and financial management of USAID and UN agreements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex financial information and solve intricate matters.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Professional finance certification highly desirable (e.g., CPA/CA).
  • Previous experience in humanitarian emergency settings highly valued.
  • Familiarity with US Government, European Union, and United Nations donor reporting regulations.
  • Experience with major general ledger software packages (MS D365 preferred).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to succeed in a dynamic environment.

Working Environment

This role is predominantly overseas, involving extensive travel. Remote work is possible when not deployed.
