About APHRC: The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a prominent African-led international research institution headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Focused on population, health, education, urbanization, and development issues in sub-Saharan Africa, APHRC conducts policy-relevant research.
Position Overview: APHRC is seeking five (5) Research Officers to join the Human Development (HD) Theme within the Research Division. The HD theme concentrates on education, youth empowerment, and early childhood development. These positions have emerged from our current five-year strategic plan, driving substantial program growth.
Responsibilities:
- Project Management:
- Lead HD research projects by developing field manuals and training guides.
- Obtain ethical approvals and research permits.
- Train and supervise field staff.
- Manage data and contribute to scientific writing.
- Proposal Development:
- Enhance scientific knowledge through proposal contributions.
- Strengthen HD theme research or related areas.
- Policy Engagement and Dissemination:
- Coordinate research findings dissemination to relevant audiences.
- Engage in policy discussions.
- Prepare reports for donors.
- Field Work and Data Quality:
- Develop study tools and field guides.
- Recruit, train, and supervise field teams.
- Ensure data quality and manage fieldwork.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Mobilize and sensitize education/youth empowerment stakeholders.
- Build awareness about research projects.
- Research and Analysis:
- Contribute to research proposals in HD areas.
- Conduct literature reviews and write scientific papers.
- Analyze policies in HD fields.
- Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare project and field reports.
- Participate in policy dialogues.
- Craft policy briefs from project findings.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Master’s degree in Education, Economics of Education, Sociology of Education, or related disciplines.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in education research or policy analysis.
- Proficiency in computers.
- Familiarity with statistical or qualitative software (e.g., STATA, SPSS, NVivo).
- Field research and project management experience.
- Strong communication in English/French and an African language.
- Independent, organized, and deadline-driven.
Location: One position in Garissa county and another in Turkana county. Priority for candidates willing to relocate.
