Position Overview

The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu, a distinguished institution under the Aga Khan Health Service, Kenya, is embarking on a groundbreaking project focused on thromboelastometric tests for alterations of coagulation in patients with Plasmodium falciparum Malaria. To support this endeavor, we are seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Research Assistant (RA) on a short-term basis. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research while making a tangible impact on patient care.


Key Responsibilities

1. Participant Screening and Consent

  • Collaborate with the research team to identify and screen potential participants based on established criteria.
  • Obtain informed consent from eligible patients or their representatives, ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and protocols.

2. Data Collection and Management

  • Collect demographic and clinical data from medical records with precision and accuracy.
  • Enter data into designated study databases promptly, maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Track patient progress throughout their hospital stay, documenting relevant clinical information to facilitate comprehensive analysis.

3. Coordination of Procedures

  • Assist in scheduling and coordinating blood draws for thromboelastometry and other required tests.
  • Ensure proper labeling and storage of blood samples according to study protocols, adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety.

4. Administrative Support

  • Maintain organized study records and research files, contributing to the preparation of study reports and presentations as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical research setting, demonstrating a strong understanding of research ethics and informed consent procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including data entry and spreadsheet software.
