Job Title: Quantitative Field Interviewers – Data on Youth and Tobacco in Africa (DaYTA) Project

Summary: Join the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in its mission to conduct groundbreaking research in Africa. We are seeking Quantitative Field Interviewers for the Data on Youth and Tobacco in Africa (DaYTA) Project. As a Quantitative Field Interviewer, you will play a crucial role in collecting vital data on tobacco use among adolescents aged 10 to 17 years. This nationally representative household survey aims to fill key evidence gaps and complement existing data in Kenya. Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Enumeration Area Identification: Identify the selected enumeration areas accurately.
  2. Household Listing: Locate household structures in study enumeration areas and perform a comprehensive household listing.
  3. Informed Consent: Obtain and document informed consent from study participants before commencing data collection.
  4. Survey Conduct: Conduct all study surveys diligently and efficiently.
  5. Data Submission: Edit and submit data for completed interviews daily for cross-checking and verification by the designated team leader.
  6. Training Attendance: Attend all scheduled training sessions and progress meetings.
  7. Data Integrity: Ensure data integrity is maintained at all times, minimizing errors in data gathering and transmission.
  8. Equipment Handling: Handle all study tools and equipment responsibly and ensure their safety.
  9. Communication: Promptly communicate any challenges or issues arising from the field to team leaders and the research team.
  10. Timely Completion: Complete scheduled daily activities in a timely manner and file reports of work done promptly.
  11. Project Support: Assist the research team in other project-related activities as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, with a minimum grade of C Plain.
  • Fluency in both Kiswahili and English, both written and oral.
  • Experience in data collection using electronic data collection platforms such as survey CTO or Open Data Kit (ODK).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Proven working experience on quantitative research projects, including nationwide household surveys.
  • Current resident of one of the selected 16 counties.
  • Ability to adhere to protocols and guidelines for data collection.
  • Availability to work full-time on the project for the duration of the study.

Desired Candidate Traits:

  • Residency in one of the specified counties: Kilifi, Mombasa, Garissa, Marsabit, Meru, Kitui, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Turkana, Trans-Nzoia, Nandi, Laikipia, Busia, Migori, Nyamira, and Nairobi.
  • Willingness to work full-time on the project for the duration of data collection.
  • Flexibility and availability to work odd hours when necessary, with minimal supervision.
