Join the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) in our mission to protect and promote human rights across Kenya. As an independent National Human Rights Institution, KNCHR operates under the principles outlined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and the United Nations Paris Principles. We are dedicated to fostering a human rights-respecting state through various directorates, including Complaints and Investigations, Research, Advocacy and Outreach, Legal Services, Regional Services, and Corporate Services.

Position Summary

As a Public Education and Training Officer, you’ll play a pivotal role in disseminating crucial information, education, communication, and sensitization on human rights issues. Working under the Public Education and Training division and reporting to the Deputy Director, your primary responsibility will be to enhance the promotion and protection of human rights through targeted educational initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of public education and training programs.
  • Develop and distribute customized human rights education materials.
  • Lead the development of human rights training programs, manuals, and curricula.
  • Assist in organizing internal and external forums, workshops, and trainings.
  • Foster program synergy and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create awareness through various media channels including print, social, and electronic media.
  • Generate progress reports on education and training programs.
  • Provide administrative support for human rights projects aligned with the commission’s strategic plan.
  • Collect data to monitor the public’s enjoyment of human rights and standards.
  • Draft progress reports for accountability purposes.
  • Ensure quality control of all human rights programs and materials.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent social sciences.
  • Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya (for lawyers).
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in curriculum development and design.
  • Demonstrated experience in training and curriculum development.
  • Solid understanding of human rights and relevant laws.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and research skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
