Job Overview:

As part of our efforts to combat the effects of climate change and enhance the resilience of women and children in Nairobi, Makueni, and Kajiado counties, ChildFund International is launching the Re-greening Africa Project. We are seeking a dedicated Project Officer to oversee its successful implementation.

Reporting to the Area Manager and with technical support from the Senior Food Security & Livelihoods Specialist, you will play a vital role in planning, executing, and reporting on the project’s progress. Your responsibilities include building strong relationships with project participants, government departments, stakeholders, and ensuring adherence to humanitarian standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Guidance and Training

  • Provide farmers (women, youth, and community groups) with expert guidance on agroforestry, soil conservation, water harvesting, and commercial agro-forestry and fruit tree nursery management.

2. Surveys and Data Collection

  • Assist consultants in conducting baseline and evaluation surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews with farmers and stakeholders.

3. Project Implementation

  • Ensure timely and accurate project implementation, aligning with the proposal’s design.
  • Develop and manage work plans and budgets specific to the project, ensuring objectives are met.
  • Prepare and submit consolidated donor reports to the Food Security & Livelihoods Specialist.

4. Relationship Building

  • Foster positive relationships with government entities, NGOs, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Organize donor and VIP missions to field sites.

5. Accountability and Gender Inclusion

  • Oversee the distribution of project commodities, ensuring accountability and providing regular feedback.
  • Integrate gender and child protection measures into the project.

6. Representation and Proposal Development

  • Represent ChildFund International in the assigned Sub-County.
  • Support the development of concepts and proposals for donor funding.

7. Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficiency in Community-Based Targeting, Resilience Analysis, Climate Smart Agricultural Technologies, Kitchen Gardening, and Participatory Planning and Learning Techniques.
  • Willingness to work in rural settings with minimal supervision.

8. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Collect and report data on project progress, challenges, and impact.
  • Identify success stories, lessons learned, and best practices.

9. Coordination and Field Visits

  • Coordinate effectively with local authorities, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Conduct field visits to monitor agroforestry and land restoration activities.

10. Technology Adoption

  • Ensure the establishment and maintenance of commercial agro-forestry and fruit tree nurseries, vegetable kitchen gardens, and project activities adhere to schedules.
  • Promote Climate Smart Agricultural Technologies and oversee moringa processing and marketing activities.

11. Additional Duties

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in agroforestry, land restoration, climate change adaptation, or rural development projects.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, report writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to field sites.
