Introduction

ActionAid Kenya is seeking a highly motivated Project Officer to join the African Women Voices for Peace Project in Baringo County, Kenya. This position offers an incredible opportunity to make a tangible impact by supporting the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda.
As a Project Officer, you will play a pivotal role in empowering women at the frontline of peacebuilding efforts, fostering leadership, and ensuring sustainable community-driven solutions. Join us in creating a just, equitable, and peaceful society.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Officer will be responsible for effectively planning and implementing project activities at the county level. Key duties include:
Project Planning and Implementation
- Develop and implement annual work plans and operational plans for the African Women Voices for Peace platform.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly work plans for project interventions.
- Conduct data collection, needs assessments, and baseline studies (start and end-line evaluations).
Capacity Building and Training
- Facilitate Training of Trainers (TOT) sessions for community counselors to offer psychosocial support.
- Train frontline women on alternative livelihoods and provide them with startup kits.
- Conduct training sessions for women leaders and local officials on leadership and advocacy.
- Sensitize women, partners, state, and non-state actors on regional and national frameworks related to the WPS agenda.
- Build the capacity of women’s organizations in advocacy, analysis, and constructive engagement in peace talks.
Community Mobilization and Advocacy
- Mobilize rural women into a critical mass of peace campaigners and transitional justice activists.
- Facilitate national dialogues between frontline women and stakeholders on the WPS agenda’s accountability.
- Promote constructive engagement with government institutions and community leaders to advocate for gender equality and peace.
Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E)
- Conduct participatory project reviews and reflection meetings with partners and community members.
- Implement mentoring and peer learning sessions to enhance the capacity of community groups and local organizations.
- Document all project activities, including minutes and resolutions, for future reference.
- Regularly evaluate project progress against outputs and outcomes, ensuring timely submission of reports.
Stakeholder Engagement and Networking
- Foster strong relationships with local government institutions, development partners, and community stakeholders.
- Represent ActionAid Kenya in national platforms and coordination meetings related to land rights and peacebuilding.
- Collaborate with other ActionAid project staff for knowledge sharing and mutual learning.
Qualifications and Skills
Educational Background
- Minimum Requirement: A bachelor’s degree in Law, Development Studies, Conflict Resolution, Peace Studies, Gender Studies, Human Rights, or any related Social Science discipline.
- Preferred: Postgraduate qualifications in Project Planning and Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, or Peacebuilding are an added advantage.
Required Skills and Attitudes
- Proficient facilitation skills for community-based training and workshops.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Advanced planning, implementation, and organizational capabilities.
- Strong analytical abilities to identify community needs and provide sustainable solutions.
- Skilled in report writing and meticulous documentation.
- Fluency in both spoken and written English is essential. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Baringo County is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to mobilize communities and engage diverse stakeholders effectively.
Core Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of development themes such as Gender Equality, Human Rights, Livelihoods, and Conflict Transformation.
- Proven ability to network, lobby, and advocate with stakeholders at local and national levels.
- Familiarity with the social, cultural, and political context of Baringo County.
- Expertise in women’s rights, governance, and peacebuilding, particularly under the WPS agenda.
