Key Responsibilities of the Project Driver

As a Project Driver, your primary duties will include:

1. Transportation and Safety:

• Ensure the safety of all passengers, with particular care for children during trips.
• Execute short-distance errands and long-distance journeys as required.
• Coordinate driver planning and scheduling using the project calendar and manage transportation requests.

2. Delivery and Pick-Up Duties:

• Deliver correspondence to project partners and other stakeholders.
• Facilitate pick-ups for project visitors and ensure reliable transportation during official visits.
• Pick up and drop off Sightsavers staff at the airport when needed.

3. Vehicle Maintenance and Monitoring:

• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles, addressing any identified issues.
• Monitor vehicle mileage and ensure timely servicing and maintenance.
• Schedule and complete periodic vehicle examinations for optimal performance.
• Apply for vehicle license renewals and ensure all insurance policies are up to date.
• Keep vehicles equipped with necessary items, including reflectors, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits.
• Maintain an accurate logbook of daily usage and monthly mileage records.

4. Operational Efficiency:

• Assist in arranging minor repairs and maintaining vehicles in good running condition.
• Ensure vehicles are clean both inside and outside at all times.
• Monitor tyre conditions and track general maintenance schedules.
• Perform test drives weekly to verify vehicle conditions.

5. Administrative Support (as needed):

• Provide support for clerical tasks to promote efficient office operations.
• Collaborate with staff for logistical needs and official errands.

Jobholder Requirements

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

• A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a driver’s test.
• Ability to complete and pass an eye test to confirm fitness for driving.
• Proven track record of driving safely and adhering to Kenyan traffic laws.
• Experience transporting staff for official duties, including airport pick-ups and drop-offs.
• Familiarity with executing official errands efficiently.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

• Knowledge of maintaining essential safety equipment in vehicles, such as first aid kits and reflectors.
• Competency in test-driving vehicles regularly to confirm operational integrity.
• Willingness to perform basic clerical duties to support office functions.
