About the Role

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is on the lookout for a skilled and dedicated Project Coordinator for Food Supply Systems. This role involves providing crucial technical expertise in nurturing Last Mile Vendor (LMV) businesses, enhancing access to safe, fresh, and diverse vegetables in the designated project area. Responsibilities:

As a Project Coordinator, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the landscape of food supply systems and nutrition in Kenya. Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Strengthening Partnerships: Collaborating with stakeholders at various levels to offer technical guidance and facilitate the implementation of local food safety standards.
  2. Supplier Identification: Identifying vegetable suppliers that meet Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) compliance and linking them with last mile vendors to ensure a steady supply of safe vegetables.
  3. On-ground Support: Regularly visiting Last Mile Vendors (LMVs) to assess vegetable supply conditions and address challenges to maintain a consistent flow of vegetables.
  4. Vendor-Supplier Linkage: Establishing connections between last mile vendors and suppliers who adhere to food safety standards to ensure a safe supply chain.
  5. Capacity Building: Conducting training sessions for last mile vendors, mid-value chain actors, and market committees on topics such as food safety and traceability systems.
  6. Project Collaboration: Coordinating with implementing partners and stakeholders to contribute to the development and execution of project work plans.

Qualifications and Experience:

To excel in this role, you’ll need:

  • Experience: Proven experience in working with last mile vendors, fostering links with food standards-compliant suppliers, and a strong grasp of food safety and traceability systems.
  • Sector Expertise: Solid background in the Agri-food sector in Kenya, particularly in areas like agriculture, agribusiness, and nutrition.
  • Value Chain Insight: Knowledge of supply chain analysis, especially concerning vegetables, and a history of involvement in agribusiness projects.
  • Education: A degree in Agribusiness, Agriculture, Entrepreneurship & SME Management, or equivalent practical experience. A Project Management certification is a plus.
