PROJECT ASSISTANT – FOOD SECURITY & LIVELIHOODS

Overview:

DanChurchAid (DCA) is actively seeking dynamic and competent Kenyan Nationals for two positions as Project Assistant – Food Security & Livelihoods. These roles are pivotal in supporting the implementation and coordination of food security and livelihood projects aimed at refugees and host communities in Turkana West Sub County. Based in Kakuma, the Project Assistants will report directly to the Project Officer – Food Security & Livelihoods (PO – FSL) and work closely with DCA Financial Inclusion colleagues, humanitarian and development partners, and community members to ensure successful project execution.

Responsibilities:

  1. Participant Identification: Lead the identification of project participants adhering to DCA criteria, ensuring inclusion of the most vulnerable populations in project activities.
  2. Project Planning and Implementation: Assist in planning, implementing, and monitoring FSL project activities in collaboration with the line manager and wider project team.
  3. Community Engagement: Continuously identify and communicate emerging needs and priorities of target communities related to food security and livelihoods to the supervisor.
  4. Proposal Development: Support the PO – FSL and Programme Coordinator in developing innovative, context-specific project proposals, budgets, and procurement plans.
  5. Resource Management: Identify context-appropriate agricultural inputs, equipment, and resources required for project activities and facilitate their distribution to project participants.
  6. Training and Capacity Building: Conduct training sessions and workshops on climate-smart agricultural practices, income generation, and nutrition for project participants.
  7. Technical Assistance: Provide on-the-job training and guidance to enhance agricultural production and income-generating activities of project participants.
  8. Capacity Building: Build the capacity of incentive workers on technical aspects of their work (FSL) and supervise their work in line with DCA guidelines.
  9. Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with UNHCR, local partners, government agencies, and stakeholders to ensure successful project implementation and synergy with other interventions.
  10. Monitoring and Reporting: Undertake routine monitoring, contribute to the development of project communication materials, and prepare and share project-related reports with the supervisor in a timely manner.
  11. Representation: Represent the organization in relevant forums related to food security and livelihoods as delegated by the PO – FSL.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, rural development, community development, food science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in food security and livelihood projects, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Strong understanding of food security issues, agricultural practices, and livelihood strategies.
  • Experience in conducting assessments, surveys, and data collection using participatory methods.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken). Knowledge of additional languages, especially local languages, is an asset.
  • Willingness to travel and work in remote and challenging environments.
