Job Description:

DG ECHO, a key player in humanitarian aid, is looking for a Programme Officer to join our team in Nairobi, Kenya. As a Programme Officer, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring effective humanitarian responses, working with operational partners to deliver aid to victims of natural disasters and conflicts.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Development: Contribute to designing DG ECHO’s overall strategy and policies.
  • Regional Support: Provide operational support to regional and country offices, including surge support during field missions.
  • Coordination: Facilitate internal coordination across the regional field network, maintaining partner networks, and participating in regional coordination mechanisms.
  • Capacity Building: Mentor and coach colleagues, supporting induction of new staff.
  • Reporting: Prepare operational briefings and reports, providing analyses of the regional portfolio and cross-cutting issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: A relevant first-level university degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant humanitarian experience at national and international levels.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English (written and oral – Minimum level C1), knowledge of French is an advantage.

Required Skills:

  • Project Management: Thorough knowledge of Logical Framework Approach and Project Cycle Management.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and process complex information, combining it with field reports to produce strategy documents.
  • Communication: Ability to convey information clearly and concisely, with excellent drafting skills in English.
  • Initiative: Ability to work independently and in a team, with the ability to set priorities and work to tight deadlines.

The monthly basic salary range is KES.481,395/-, subject to local tax law and adjusted based on relevant professional experience. Additional benefits include disability/retirement allowance, 13th-month salary, and medical coverage.
