Position Overview: Program Director – Finance

Africa Harvest is seeking a competent and dedicated individual to join our team as a Program Director – Finance. This role is integral to our mission of enhancing agricultural value chains and improving the lives of rural communities.


Job Summary

As the Program Director – Finance, you will oversee the financial health of Africa Harvest, ensuring sustainable financial management, strategic planning, and efficient allocation of resources to support our programs and initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Oversee all financial operations and direct corporate financial planning and structure.
  • Coordinate, analyze, and report the financial performance to Management and the Board of Directors.
  • Prepare short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management and external parties.
  • Oversee audit and tax functions, coordinate activities with outside audit firms, and review firm’s performance.

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with Africa Harvest’s mission and goals.
  • Identify and implement financial efficiencies and cost-saving measures.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to enhance financial performance and new business opportunities.

Budgeting and Reporting

  • Lead the annual budgeting process in conjunction with the Program Directors and Executive Management.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Develop financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards.
  • Implement and manage risk management systems.
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Ensure that record-keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies.

Team Leadership

  • Manage, mentor, and develop the finance team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that the finance team is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CFA) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior financial managerial position within an NGO or similar organization.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in financial and accounting software.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work under pressure.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in the agricultural sector or related fields.
  • Familiarity with donor funding mechanisms and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of international finance and accounting standards.
