Job Summary

APDK (Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya) is a renowned organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for persons with disabilities in Kenya and beyond. We are currently seeking a Professional Driver for our Nakuru Branch. This role is crucial to ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of our staff, partners, and materials, contributing directly to our mission. Key Responsibilities

As a Professional Driver for APDK’s Nakuru Branch, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring smooth operations within the organization. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Safe Transportation: Safely transport staff, partners, and materials as needed, ensuring adherence to all local traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Keep the assigned vehicle clean, well-maintained, and in excellent working condition. Regularly inspect the vehicle and report any maintenance issues promptly.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all trips, mileage, and fuel consumption, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Loading and Unloading: Assist with the loading and unloading of materials, ensuring they are securely transported to their destination without damage.
  • Scheduling Coordination: Work closely with office staff to coordinate and optimize transportation schedules, minimizing downtime and ensuring efficient operations.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent service to both internal staff and external partners, representing APDK with professionalism at all times.

Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this role, you should meet the following qualifications and skills:

  • Valid Driver’s License: Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, demonstrating a history of safe and responsible driving.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5+ years of professional driving experience is required, preferably within a reputable organization.
  • Education: Hold a high school diploma or equivalent, with additional training or certification in driving being an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Local Traffic Laws: A thorough understanding of local traffic laws and regulations is essential to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Time Management: Strong time management skills, with the ability to plan routes and schedules effectively to meet organizational needs.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to interact with staff, partners, and other stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Independence: Ability to work independently, making decisions that ensure the safety and efficiency of transportation tasks.
  • Basic Vehicle Maintenance: Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance is necessary to identify potential issues and perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Nonprofit Sector Experience: Experience working in the nonprofit sector is a plus, demonstrating an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within this field.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work extra hours when required, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
