Key Responsibilities:

As the Principal Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that ICIFA and its members operate in strict adherence to the provisions of the Investment and Financial Analysts Act (No.13 of 2015). Your core duties will include:

  1. Surveillance & Enforcement:
    • Enforce the provisions of the Investment and Financial Analysts Act (No.13 of 2015).
    • Collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure compliance and enforcement.
    • Lead the development of guidelines and procedures for regulatory compliance.
    • Investigate complaints related to professional misconduct and regulatory violations.
    • Prepare and implement compliance procedures and conduct regular compliance checks.
    • Monitor adherence to professional standards, quality assurance protocols, and other guidelines published by ICIFA’s Council.
  2. Leadership & Management:
    • Provide strategic oversight and leadership to the compliance team, ensuring that all regulatory activities align with ICIFA’s vision and mission.
    • Supervise compliance-related activities and ensure effective monitoring of ICIFA members’ adherence to legal and professional standards.
    • Develop and deliver compliance-related training programs to enhance staff competencies and performance.
  3. Collaboration & Reporting:
    • Liaise with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders to advocate for and ensure compliance with industry standards.
    • Prepare detailed compliance reports and provide regular updates to senior management on the status of compliance activities.
  4. Regulatory Development:
    • Initiate and drive efforts to enhance existing compliance frameworks and ensure alignment with evolving regulatory standards.
    • Propose and implement new compliance policies to adapt to changes in the investment and financial sectors.

Qualifications and Skills:

To be considered for this prestigious role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, or Business Management (Accounting/Finance Option), or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Master’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, or Business Management (Accounting/Finance Option), or a related field from a recognized institution.

Professional Experience:

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant working experience, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory role.
  • Previous experience in compliance, regulatory affairs, or similar fields is essential.

Certifications & Memberships:

  • Attendance in a management course lasting no less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
  • ICIFA membership is an added advantage.
  • Registration with a relevant professional body/society where applicable is highly desirable.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency in computer applications, including standard office software.
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to manage and motivate teams.
  • Strategic management, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate, collaborate, and build relationships.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Behavioral Competencies:

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle complex compliance issues.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to make decisions that align with ICIFA’s long-term objectives.
  • Familiarity with statistical software for data entry, analysis, and reporting.

Compliance Requirements:

  • Must meet the requirements outlined in Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya for leadership roles.
