The Role: As a Consultant, you will be at the heart of our Nairobi operations, closely collaborating with our London office. Your responsibilities will include:

Account Management:

  • Oversee daily activities of account teams, reporting to Senior Consultants, Partners, and Directors.
  • Foster professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Drive tactical implementation of client activity.
  • Conduct research and craft insightful reports for clients.
  • Provide guidance on policy and media matters.
  • Monitor media for client-relevant issues and recommend proactive actions.
  • Prepare comprehensive research briefs and media analysis reports.
  • Generate activity reports for clients.
  • Contribute to integrated communications plans.
  • Assist in developing messaging, crafting press releases, opinion articles, website content, and more.
  • Contribute to defining our strategic approach for clients.
  • Coordinate and execute media and social media engagement.
  • Conduct digital research, social media analysis, content planning, online influencer mapping, and provide creative input.

Media:

  • Develop compelling media angles aligned with current discourse.
  • Engage with media outlets based on client projects.
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with journalists.

New Business:

  • Play a pivotal role in business development, supporting senior team members in driving practice growth.

Team Management:

  • Support unit management and development, including line management responsibilities.

Person Specification: To excel in this role, you must possess:

  • A strong background in communications.
  • Commercial acumen and the drive to develop a talented team.
  • Industry experience, ideally in leading communications consultancies, in-house roles, or media.
  • Proven expertise in managing and executing insight-led communication campaigns.
  • Experience in account management and team leadership with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong business development skills, including proposal writing.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a distinct industry perspective.
  • A diverse skill set encompassing media, digital, and political/policy capabilities.
  • The ability to manage teams and clients, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Knowledge of national, regional, and pan-African media, particularly with health and development reporters.

Qualifications and Skills: You should also possess:

  • A profound interest in media and international affairs.
  • Experience in global development, United Nations engagement, public affairs, politics, or campaigning (an advantage).
  • Proficiency in journalism, blogging, and social media (an advantage).
  • Knowledge of other UN languages, such as French (welcome but not necessary).
