Job Title: Pharmaceutical Technologist

Victoria Biomedical Research Institute (VIBRI) was established in 2020 with the mission to accelerate the development of health solutions for global challenges, particularly in Africa. Based in Kenya, VIBRI collaborates with international health organizations to drive research and clinical development that improve healthcare locally and globally. VIBRI focuses on innovative epidemiological research and the development of medical technologies to combat the growing burden of infectious and chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes across the continent.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will report to the Research Pharmacist and will be responsible for supporting the pharmacy team with the safe and effective management of Investigational Products (IP). You will be involved in the entire process, from receipt and storage to preparation, dispensing, and accountability of medical devices and drugs. Your duties will include:
- Inventory Management: Assist in the receipt, storage, and dispensing of medications. Monitor and maintain accurate records of medications stored in the pharmacy.
- Cold Chain Monitoring: Ensure proper monitoring of temperatures and maintenance of all cold-chain equipment used in the pharmacy.
- Quality Assurance: Implement quality control processes throughout clinical trials and prepare reports for audits and reviews.
- Patient Counseling: Counsel patients on medication usage and provide instructions on dosages.
- Compliance and Record Keeping: Maintain compliance with Kenya Pharmacy & Poisons Board regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.
- Support in Quality Audits: Participate in quality assurance audits and adhere to protocols set by regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate in Trials: Work closely with the research pharmacist and clinical research team to ensure the smooth running of trials.
- Report Adverse Reactions: Record and report any adverse drug reactions or side effects during trials.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
- Registration: Must be registered with the Kenya Pharmacy & Poisons Board.
- License: A valid practice license from the appropriate regulatory body is required.
- Experience: At least one year of experience, preferably in a medical research organization conducting human trials.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills, especially in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Communication Skills: Fluency in English and Swahili. Knowledge of Dholuo is an added advantage as it is the local language in Kisumu.
- Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
