Position Overview

The Embassy Nairobi is seeking a qualified and experienced Newsletter Editor (CLO Communications Assistant) to join our team. This position, open to the public and U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs), requires excellent communication and organizational skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing the weekly newsletter “The Roar” and managing website and social media content to promote Mission events and community wellbeing.

Duties and Responsibilities

As the CLO Communications Assistant, you will work under the supervision of the Community Liaison Office (CLO) Coordinator. Your main responsibilities include:

  1. Newsletter Production: Create engaging, factual, and informative articles for the weekly newsletter “The Roar.”
  2. Website and Social Media Management: Update and maintain online media platforms, including Facebook and web pages.
  3. Community Engagement: Plan trips for the American community at the Mission, showcasing interesting places and educational activities available.
  4. Event Promotion: Develop and maintain an editorial calendar and mission-wide events calendar to improve communication and promote community events.
  5. Community Support: Assist the CLO in executing post programs to foster and maintain high morale among community members.

Qualifications and Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in education, administration, public relations, media/communication, marketing, or public/community outreach.

Job Knowledge:

  • Pre-hire (Operational): Design and update online media platforms, knowledge of the country’s general culture and interesting places.
  • Post-hire (Organizational): Familiarity with Department of State and Mission Nairobi activities, electronic communication delivery systems.

Education:

  • Completion of Secondary School is required.

Language Proficiency:

  • Level IV (Fluent) speaking/writing/reading in English.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written editorial and oral communication skills.
  • Resourcefulness and creativity in digital marketing and online forums engagement.
  • Keyboard skills with accuracy.
  • Familiarity with Sales Force, Adobe InDesign, Canva, Foreign Affairs Network (FAN), and other relevant online tools.
  • Proficiency in desktop publishing, Microsoft Suite, databases, digital editing, and social media platforms.
