Job Summary

As the National Community Mobilization Coordinator at CIHEB-Kenya, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating demand creation and community mobilization efforts within selected communities and counties for the KENPHIA II survey. Collaborating closely with multi-sectorial stakeholders at national, county, and community levels, you will implement strategies that promote awareness, trust, and participation while ensuring confidentiality, safety, and security. Reporting to the Senior Technical Advisor, you will ensure the alignment of mobilization strategies with implementation plans and closely monitor community engagement. Your responsibilities will include identifying stakeholders, creating culturally sensitive content, partnering with relevant organizations, and overseeing community mobilizers.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Stakeholder Identification and Engagement

  • Identify opinion leaders, stakeholders, and gatekeepers in target communities.
  • Lead community mobilization efforts at county, sub-county, and community levels.

2. Strategic Mobilization

  • Design mobilization strategies leveraging community structures.
  • Recruit mobilization personnel at county and sub-county levels.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Technical Advisor to integrate real-time demands into micro plans.

3. Content Development and Dissemination

  • Develop culturally sensitive content and mobilization products.
  • Utilize creative messaging and local media for awareness.

4. Collaboration and Advocacy

  • Partner with networks of people living with HIV and civil service organizations.
  • Advocate for the project with governmental officers, elders, and leaders.
  • Monitor community acceptance of survey activities.

5. Survey Preparation and Oversight

  • Conduct knowledge, attitude, and practice surveys.
  • Coordinate media officers and communication product development.
  • Support recruitment and day-to-day activities of community mobilizers.

6. Team Leadership and Support

  • Motivate and guide survey teams.
  • Maintain relationships between mobilization and implementation teams.
  • Ensure well-equipped teams and efficient completion of assignments.

Qualifications, Qualities & Abilities

– Education and Experience

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences.
  • 5 – 10 years’ experience in similar roles on field surveys in LMIC.

– Expertise and Skills

  • Extensive experience in implementing Community-Based Programs.
  • Solid understanding of integrated community health programs, including HIV/AIDS.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and crisis communication skills.
  • Knowledge of social media tracking and local media landscape.

– Personal Attributes

  • Self-starter and innovative thinker with strong work ethics.
  • Analytical skills and ability to multitask.
  • Cultural sensitivity and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership skills and flexibility in travel and working hours.
