Position Summary:

The Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Specialist will play a pivotal role in supporting TNC’s Africa Climate and Forest Protection Strategy, developing and executing MEL plans, and providing technical assistance for monitoring, reporting, and data management.

Our strategy prioritizes Nature Based Solutions (NBS) for climate mitigation and adaptation. We aim to protect ecosystems, support clean energy transition, and foster sustainable food production in Angola, Gabon, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia.

Expert Tips To Be A Successful Applicant: Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) 

  • Showcase your experience in MEL, climate mitigation, and adaptation.
  • Demonstrate your capacity in designing and implementing M&E systems and plans.
  • Highlight your proficiency in data analysis and GIS.
  • Emphasize your ability to provide MEL capacity-building support and mentoring.
  • Consider including experience in biodiversity conservation or related fields.

Responsibilities and Scope:

  • Design an M&E system for Africa Climate Strategy programs and AFCC projects.
  • Facilitate project teams in developing relevant MEL Plans and SMART indicators.
  • Manage and ensure timely tracking and reporting of indicators by partners.
  • Conduct data quality assurance and site visits to enhance data validity.
  • Provide MEL support in evaluation exercises and project proposals.
  • Promote cross-project learning and best practices sharing.
  • Support coastal and marine conservation projects as needed.

Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in science or related field with 5 years of experience in MEL, conservation practice, or related disciplines.
  • Supervisory experience and strong knowledge of climate mitigation/adaptation.
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing M&E systems and plans.
  • Experience in data analysis using GIS and Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Over 7 years of experience in environmental conservation or related fields.
  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Specialized training in M&E and adaptive management.
  • Familiarity with web-based data management and visualization systems.
