Role Summary

Are you passionate about fostering a love for learning and promoting a deep understanding of mathematics and chemistry among students? Our client, an esteemed NGO operating a secondary school in Narok County, is looking for a dedicated and dynamic Maths/Chemistry Teacher. In this role, you will create engaging educational experiences, cater to diverse learning styles, and significantly impact students’ academic journeys.


Key Roles and Responsibilities

Teaching and Curriculum Development

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in Mathematics and Chemistry that align with the Kenyan national curriculum.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies to cater to diverse learner needs.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methods and materials to support learning objectives.
  • Integrate technology into the classroom to enhance learning experiences.

Assessment and Feedback

  • Design and administer assessments, quizzes, and exams to evaluate learner understanding and progress.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on learner performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner grades, attendance, and other relevant information.

Classroom Management

  • Establish and maintain a positive and disciplined classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Implement school policies and procedures to manage learner behavior effectively.
  • Address and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise in the classroom.

Student Support and Development

  • Provide academic support and guidance to learners, including after-school tutoring if necessary.
  • Identify learners who may need additional help and work with them to improve their performance.
  • Encourage and motivate learners to reach their full potential.
  • Participate in and contribute to co-curricular activities, such as science clubs, math competitions, and school events.
  • Mentor and coach learners in preparation for competitions and examinations.

Professional Development and Collaboration

  • Engage in continuous professional development to stay updated with the latest teaching practices and subject knowledge.
  • Attend and participate in school meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and the school administration to support learner learning and development.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about learner progress and any concerns.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the school’s academic programs.

Desired Qualifications

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education with a specialization in Mathematics and Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Teaching certification recognized by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of Kenya.

Professional Experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in both math and chemistry concepts, with a strong understanding of pedagogical strategies.
  • Prior experience in teaching, tutoring, or facilitating math and chemistry education at various levels.

Desired Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology for teaching purposes, including online learning platforms and educational software.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining high teaching standards.
  • Patience, creativity, and a genuine passion for inspiring a love of learning in students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate different learning styles and adapt to changing educational landscapes.
