Job Purpose

As the Manager of Pensions (S7), your primary responsibility will be to collaborate with the Trust Secretary to the Board of Trustees in formulating, evaluating, and enhancing policies and procedures to align with the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) Act 1997 and Regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

i. Benefits Management

  • Advise the Schemes Administrator on member enrollment and exit, ensuring prompt processing and disbursement of benefits.
  • Ensure timely remittance of member and employer contributions to the Custodian.

ii. Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and submit annual balance statements for scheme members.
  • Facilitate secretariat services for the Board of Trustees in managing staff superannuation schemes.

iii. Scheme Oversight

  • Manage day-to-day operations of superannuation schemes.
  • Oversee property rentals collection and timely submission to the Custodian for investment.

iv. Beneficiary Services

  • Administer staff pension schemes and post-retirement medical fund to facilitate beneficiaries’ benefits in line with Trust Deed and Rules.

v. Compliance and Resolution

  • Aid the Administrator and Trustees in identifying rightful beneficiaries and collecting necessary documents for benefit disbursement.
  • Monitor implementation of Board resolutions and ensure legislative adherence.

vi. Member Engagement

  • Conduct members’ education sessions and retirement seminars.
  • Coordinate Annual General Meetings (AGMs) and ensure accurate preparation and distribution of Annual Financial Statements.

vii. Compliance Assurance

  • Manage schemes in accordance with Trust Deed and Rules.
  • Ensure full adherence to legislative requirements.

Key Qualifications and Experience

i. Education and Professional Background

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Insurance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or Human Resource Management.
  • Relevant professional qualifications.
  • Membership in relevant professional bodies.

ii. Expertise and Experience

  • In-depth understanding of pension laws and ability to interpret and offer guidance.
  • Certification in Trustee Development Program Kenya (TDPK).
  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ relevant experience, including three (3) years in managerial/supervisory roles.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong teamwork, communication, interpersonal, supervisory, and analytical skills.
