Job Title: Lewa Standard and Tourism Coordinator

Introduction:

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (Lewa) serves as a beacon for wildlife conservation in Kenya. We are seeking a proactive, reliable, and dedicated individual to join our Operations Department as the Lewa Standard and Tourism Coordinator. Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, this role is pivotal in upholding and enforcing the Lewa Standard while fostering sustainable tourism practices.

Job Summary:

As the Lewa Standard and Tourism Coordinator, you will be responsible for ensuring adherence to the Lewa Standard and promoting sustainable tourism practices within the conservancy. Your role involves monitoring compliance, managing tourist activities, and collaborating with various stakeholders to maintain conservation standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforcement of Lewa Standard: Implement and enforce all aspects of the Lewa Standard and Code of Conduct.
  • Vehicle and Area Management: Monitor and manage vehicle road and area use plans within Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.
  • Air Operators Coordination: Collaborate with air operators to minimize the impact on lodges, tourist activities, and residences.
  • Lewa Guides Standard: Oversee the implementation of the Lewa Guides Standard, including training and safety protocols.
  • Data Management: Ensure accurate data capture of vehicle movements and produce monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with partners to address challenges, record successes, and explore new tourism opportunities.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on tourism regulations and ensure adherence to relevant laws.
  • Committee Convening: Organize meetings related to Lewa Standards, Tourism Infrastructure, and Code of Conduct.
  • Promotional Activities: Work with the Communications department to effectively promote tourism products.
  • Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve any breaches of the Lewa Code of Conduct in collaboration with the Operations team.
  • Policy Establishment: Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and enforce policies that promote the Lewa Standard.

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Conservation Management, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in conservation management, tourism, and community engagement.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • IT proficiency and familiarity with computer packages.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough understanding of Kenyan tourism and wildlife conservation laws.
